Shimon Peres, the man who was always there, stood for more than seventy years at every important intersection of the State of Israel. From the days of defense procurement even before the War of Independence, through the establishment of the defense industries, arms deals around the world in the days when no country wanted to sell arms to Israel, the construction of the nuclear reactor in Dimona, the Entebbe operation, the withdrawal of the IDF from Lebanon, the rescue of the economy from hundreds of percent inflation, and more.
But more than anything else, he would like to be remembered as a man who dedicated his life to the country he loved so much and the peace he so wanted.
In the last decade of his life, he won what he always aspired to - the love of the people.
