The Lover is the first novel written by Avraham b. Yehoshua, and immediately upon its publication in 1977- became one of the most loved and read novels in Israeli literature. It has been translated into twenty-three languages, adapted for a play at the Haifa Theater and two full-length films in Israel and Europe. Six souls found an author, and in the monologues Shatti and Arab they tell about themselves in Israel during the Yom Kippur War period and after. And so wrote the literary critic, Prof. Gershon Shaked, immediately upon the appearance of the novel: "Beyond all interpretations and meanings, the novel The Lover is a fascinating book, read with bated breath. It is a book full of humor and acute human discernment." Since then, many interpretive works have been written about the novel, and it has become one of the Iron Sheep's assets for teaching literature in schools and universities.
