Two small children are brought to the emergency room of the Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem. One, a four-year-old boy, suffers from severe burns, while his three-year-old brother is unconscious due to a brain injury. Beside their bed sits their mother in silence, dressed in rich robes. The young and devoted ultra-Orthodox mother, immigrant from America and daughter of a wealthy family, refuses to answer the questions of the doctors - and the police - regarding the circumstances in which her children suffered the horrific injuries. Bina Tzedek, a religious Jerusalem detective and mother of two, is in charge of the case. As she peels back layer after layer, she finds her life tainted as she struggles with an evil so dark and corrupt that it borders on the supernatural.
