The Book of the Tao is undoubtedly one of the most mysterious books in the Far East, and it is accepted to attribute to it the basis of the Taoist philosophy, the various martial arts and Chinese medicine. Very little is known about the book's author, the Chinese sage Lao-tzu, who is believed to have been in charge of the emperor's archives. Legend has it that Luo-tse resigned from his post when Confucius was chosen to be the minister of education and justice in the kingdom and went on a trip to the Himalayas from which he never returned. At the border station he left one small book, which summarizes in a simple way the basics of his Torah.
