A place in the world Thoughts on education / Trooper Hili A person who chooses to engage in education is probably a person of faith. A person who believes in humans, in their ability to bring about change, shape reality and walk in new ways. A person who does not let go, even when the faith and the dream are buried under the dust of the routine and the everyday, even when the dripping sweat makes the eyes salty and it is difficult to see the way. As the principal of "Branco Weiss" High School in Ramla for the past five years, I have written a long series of letters to teachers. Letters and words of education, which sought to give depth to experience, a horizon to action, meaning to work. In this book, where dozens of sections from the letters have been collected, stories, insights, thoughts, feelings, regrets, longings, sadness, joy, pain and happiness are gathered together. Everything in education. Everything in life at all. On the face of it this is a local story of one small school in Ramla, but in deeper ways there is, it seems to me, a much broader story of many, many in Israeli society. It seems to me that even those who are not involved in education will find sense and meaning in these words. Happily, we saw a blessing in our labor, and every morning, in front of our amazed eyes, we were privileged to see the sand birds take off; Shaking off dust and asking to touch the sky. Is there a more beautiful picture in our world? Is there another job that provides an experience that comes close to this formative experience? A place in the world is a unique collection of letters and educational thoughts written with the heart of a school principal who, together with a dedicated team of educators, sought to create a place for his students in the world and lead them to an even better place, and through them the entire Israeli society. Personal stories and educational dilemmas, alongside excerpts from world literature and Jewish thought, together outline an original educational concept that grew out of a deep dialogue with its environment, and all of these are what make this book a multidimensional, waiting and touching document. "Branco Weiss" high school in Ramla is a unique school that seeks to provide another opportunity to youth who have dropped out of other educational frameworks. The school became famous in Ben Shani's film "The Last Chance High School" as part of the "Ovda" program. Hili Troper is an educator and social activist who ran the "Branco Weiss" school for five years. As part of his volunteer activities, he was a partner in the establishment of several social organizations, including the associations "Ba Meglai Tzedek" and "Shechan Tov", which are concerned with strengthening the disadvantaged groups. Recently Hili takes his first steps in politics. This is his first book.
