On the advice of the doctor, the twenty-four-year-old Boruria is displaced from her home in Netanya to the settlement of Moresh Avot in Samaria. The fresh air in Samaria should contribute to eradicating her asthma.
Ancestral Heritage was a highly reputable settlement that the young people of theReligious Judaism flocked to study at its yeshiva and older couples sought to start a family there. Boruria is hired as a gardener and discovers a hidden secret, which harms the good name of the settlement and causes the departure of the best of its people.
The book describes the day-to-day life in the settlement, the intrigues and problems faced by the residents, the police investigations and above all the human weaknesses that many of the ancestral heritage residents reveal until the moment when the settlement breaks up and makes way for another prestigious settlement.
